Friday Show and Tell – Your Week in review

This site features a lot of criticism on gaming. Sometimes we have to stop and remember that gaming is super fun.

Post here and tell everyone what you did in gaming this week that made you go “Squee!” Or if you are in the mood, share something you are looking forward to in the week ahead. Or share a gaming related blog that you think is awesome: tell us why we should all go take a look.

    I’ll go first!

Yesterday was the first day I had any time to game all week. I sort of forgot how much work a newborn was!

I DL’d Lair of the Shadow Broker for ME2. If you haven’t, DL in now! It was great. Lots of good combat, and I think the best rewards in the game.

There was one chase sequence, where Liara makes comments throughout. What I found funny was the things she was saying would be the exact same things a person sitting beside me watching me paly the game would say. Sort of like having a gaming buddy. Very meta.

    I also discovered:

…I spent way too much money the past couple of weeks. XD

I picked up Reach, Legendary Edition (cause I really wanted that collectible diorama statue) on day 1… then this week traded in Metroid: Other M for ruining Metroid for me to pre-order Front Mission Evolved, Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and Vanquish.

Then traded in 3 extra PS3 controllers for the PS3 Move Sports champions bundle and a 2nd motion controller, and today, trading in sports champions for more credit towards all the stuff I pre-ordered. XD

Also discovered that I horribly broke all the drivers on my PC for broadcasting on justin.tv, so I’ll need to do reformats on both PC and Laptop now.

I’ve essentially spent the week ‘preparing’ to game hard next week. T_T

how do you find the Sony Motion controls?

      • temjinzero  On September 24, 2010 at 11:25 am

I haven’t even tried them. I may pop in the demo disc that came with it today after work.

I did try navigating the XMB Menu in the PS3 with the Move, which was kinda neat. You hold down the trigger, and then move the remote in the direction you want to scroll through stuff.

I spent a lot more time this week trying to get broadcasting equipment ready… T_T

Tried out the Move this weekend.

Overall, I’m very pleased with tracking and response time in general. There’s a bit of annoyance with re-calibrating frequently, but I realized quickly that this is due to depth perception of the controls and that you and the Move controller are not always at a specific distance from the console and camera. To that extent, I don’t mind the quick calibration.

Tracking is very accurate and there doesn’t seem to be any noticeable lag time. Sports Champions is an ok game, and unlike Wii Sports, definitely no cheap waggling to activate motions. At the same time though, the amount of force put into the motion controller doesn’t fully translate, so sometimes you get a really hard/forced motion, and the game doesn’t really pick up that you want a really hard shot in table tennis or something.

One game I did find that I think is a great party game and a great use for move controls is Tumble, a PSN download game for 10 bucks. That game has some interesting physics and puzzles, and block placement with the move is absolutely wonderful.

Limbo by far was the best summer surprise. I love that game! Transformers: War for Cybertron was another surprise hit. I’m looking forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops, obviously, so the sooner November gets here, the better. The Halo: Reach bug hasn’t bitten me yet, so I’ll just wait on getting that one. Besideds COD: Black Ops, the new Star Wars: Forced Unleashed game looks amazing and I’m pretty psyched about Fable III, too. Still on the fence with Medal of Honor and The Sims 3 for the Xbox 360 both games look good, but nothing really jumps out at me. Ultimately, though, the BEST news all week was the fact that Team Ninja confirmed they are making a Ninja Gaiden III. This is freakin’ awesome!! I love the Ninja Gaiden series, old and new. Can’t wait.

Moving sucks, as we moved from Florida to Virginia. IGX had to take a back seat, but now I’m back up and running.

Besides the normal gaming news sites, I’ve enjoyed this blog as well as Kokugamer.com the Xbox 360 portion of the site and Brutalgamer.com. Also, if you get really bored, you can visit my home iGamexbox.com. The site concentrates on the Xbox 360. All gamers are welcome, but xbox gaming is my passion. Have a good weekend, gamers! Thanks for the open forum, Yellingatpixels! That is all…

Moving is not fun. We moved about 7 weeks ago. For those keeping tabs at home we moved beginning of August. Had a baby near end of August.

      Nuts.

Lair of the Shadow Broker is definitely the best DLC content for ME 2. I had a blast playing it. A close 2nd was Project Overlord. It had a real System Shock vibe to the story. Monday I succumbed to the hype and picked Halo: Reach and man was it amazing. Having played 1 and 3 Reach was by far the best campaign story (uber bonus point for no Flood!). I haven’t play any multplayer yet but will probably venture into it this weekend.

What am I excited about? After reach I’m very temped to go back and check out ODST. Also Dead Rising 2 (1st was just crazy fun!), Fallout: New Vegas, and Bad Company 2: Vietnam. I also have a friend in Final Fantasy XIV and am interested to see what he thinks.
